What’s That In The Bay?

If you’ve ever driven along Pensacola Bay and noticed the mysterious concrete structures rising from the water near the foot of the Pensacola Bay Bridge, you’re not alone. Resembling castle turrets, these curious remnants are all that’s left of the once-bustling Muscogee Wharf—a vital part of Pensacola’s industrial and maritime history.

This historic aerial photo from the early 20th century shows the wharf in its prime, complete with docked ships and rail lines stretching into the bay. Originally built in the 1800s, Muscogee Wharf served as a hub for transporting lumber, cotton, and later fuel and other materials. Over time, as the industries it supported faded or shifted inland, the wharf fell into disuse. But the sturdy concrete piers—those castle-like structures—remain as a silent tribute to the area’s working waterfront past.

Pensacola Energy is proud of our deep local roots. Like the Muscogee Wharf, we’re woven into the fabric of this community—past, present, and future.
